about

Whether closing festival main stages with a 8-piece latin band, an instrumental jazz-rock trio, or playing solo at a local venue, Federico “Fede” Vilchez still remembers learning his first chords from his father Ruben “El Negro” Vilchez as a young teenager, next to a river somewhere in Cordoba, Argentina. Now a multi-instrumentalist, globetrotter and singer-songwriter, Fede’s inspiration comes from living and touring all over South and North America.

Fede Vilchez and the F in band's first single "Salir a la Luz", released on September 1st, 2023, talks about the struggles of love and life in the city. In 2024, they released their latest single "Alma de Gitano", which features Chilean bass legend Francisco "Bambino" Arancibia, the East-Coast drummer Frederic Comeau, and the amazing Mexican percussionist Roberto Cruz.
As a solo artist, Fede sings originals and covers in Spanish, English and Portuguese, across a wide variety of genres, on the acoustic and electric guitar, accompanying himself with layers of loops and effect pedals.
Fede's latest solo work features the full live show "Valhalla" from the "At home sessions" series, filmed at his front yard in Nelson, BC during the pandemic, where he plays acoustic versions of his solo material. In 2021 Fede released the album "Quimera", an instrumental rock-jazz fusion trio featuring Nicolas Travaini on electric and upright bass and Facundo Corona on drums. His latest session work features a collaboration with Vancouver band Mngwa, on the album "The Strange One" (2020) playing electric guitar and mandolin; and, in Entangados' live performance for Chinatown Sessions (2019 Victoria, BC).
